Michael Joseph Furniture – Bespoke Website for a Bespoke Craft

About the Project

Michael Joseph Furniture is a UK company specialising in custom-built furniture, with a strong focus on wardrobes, interior woodwork, and fitted cabinetry. Every item is handmade to the highest standard using traditional joinery techniques and carefully selected materials. Their work is driven by a deep respect for detail, proportion, and natural finishes—resulting in truly timeless interiors.

The client needed a website that would not only showcase their outstanding portfolio of completed work, but also serve as a touchpoint for discerning customers looking for something beyond the ordinary. A large part of this project was about visually communicating the company’s ethos: understated luxury, fine craftsmanship, and made-to-measure excellence.

Website production.

Project Brief

Michael Joseph Furniture approached us with the goal of establishing a stronger digital presence to complement their growing reputation within the bespoke interiors market.
They needed a platform that:
  • Showcased their work through beautiful, high-resolution imagery
  • Clearly conveyed their design process and values
  • Was simple to navigate and mobile-friendly
  • Maintained a refined and minimal aesthetic that echoed their own visual style
  • Was easy to update with new projects and imagery over time
Working closely with the business owner, we set out to design a site that would allow the work to speak for itself, using a pared-back design framework that supported rather than overshadowed the portfolio content.

Design and Development Approach

We started by exploring the visual language of the brand—refined, honest, and quietly confident. Typography, spacing, and layout were all carefully considered to maintain a sense of calm and control across the site. A soft, neutral palette was chosen to let the materials in the photography—oak, walnut, painted cabinetry—take centre stage.
The website was built on a lightweight, fast-loading foundation, fully responsive across all screen sizes. Image optimisation was key: we wanted to showcase the beauty of the craftsmanship without slowing down the user experience. Each image is thoughtfully placed and paired with subtle transitions to add movement without distraction.

Key features of the site include:
  • A Portfolio section that allows users to browse past projects with ease, each with a gallery and brief project summary
  • A Process page that outlines how Michael Joseph works with clients, from consultation to completion
  • A minimalist About section, written in a tone that reflects the authenticity and passion of the craft
  • Streamlined navigation and mobile optimisation to ensure accessibility across all devices
  • Backend integration for easy updates, so the business owner can add new content without technical support

Also implementing basic on-page SEO best practices to help the site perform better in organic search results. While the business operates largely through word-of-mouth and reputation, the client wanted a website that could also attract new enquiries from homeowners, architects, and interior designers researching bespoke furniture options online.

Collaboration and Outcome

This was a highly collaborative project, with regular input from the client on imagery selection, wording, and layout. Michael Joseph Furniture had a clear vision for how they wanted their work to be presented, and our role was to translate that into a digital format that felt natural, cohesive, and elegant.

The result is a clean, image-led website that reflects the same level of care and attention to detail that goes into every piece of Michael Joseph’s work. It acts not only as a portfolio but also as an extension of the brand’s personality—quietly confident, deeply skilled, and focused on quality above all else.
